Review of Antenatal Care Guidelines

The Department of Health is seeking an Expert Working Group to oversee the review of the Antenatal Care Guidelines.

What is the opportunity?

Consumer representation is sought for the Expert Working Group which will oversee the review of the Antenatal Care Guidelines.  The representative should have experience as a consumer in the Australian maternity system.  The consumer representative will advise the Expert Working Group on antenatal care issues from a consumer perspective and will contribute advice from a consumer perspective to the review.

The Expert Working Group is co-chaired by a midwife and an obstetrician.  Members are drawn from a range of organisations and include midwifery, obstetric and perinatal epidemiology expertise.  There is currently a consumer representative on the Expert Working Group and an additional consumer representative is being sought.

The successful applicant will have a network (formal or informal) of people with recent experience with the Australian maternity system to draw upon.  The person should be interested in pregnancy care, the maternity system and improving outcomes for pregnant women and their families.

What is involved?

The work is anticipated to consist of one or two meetings a year plus out of session work commenting on papers such as evidence evaluation reports and draft revised guidelines via email.  The next face to face meeting is scheduled for the first half of next year.

Meetings to date have been held in Melbourne as a larger number of members are based in Victoria.  Location of meetings may vary depending on where the majority of members are henceforth located.

Please note that sitting fees at remuneration tribunal rates and travel costs will be covered for this work.
