Diversity Is Diverse

What is diversity in healthcare? Surely it is more than just one’s ethnic background but a reflection in other ways such as gender, sexual orientation, disability and culture.

In June 2017, Health Issues Centre is running a one-day forum – Diversity is Diverse – where we will explore diversity from a broad spectrum of contexts and hear from organisations who have tackled the ‘too hard’ basket.

Kirsty Webeck is a Melbourne-based stand-up comedian who has had a professional (hint hint: nurse) and personal connection to the health care system. She will be sharing her side of the story as a gay woman accessing health care in Australia and kick off a humorous yet honest discussion of when and why it’s important to recognise difference.

You asked and we have delivered on a panel of speakers from outside the health sector who have tried, failed and mostly succeeded in working effectively with diverse communities. You definitely don’t want to miss this session!

After filling our bellies with deliciousness, we are dedicating the afternoon to unearthing the challenges within our health services to come up with a new way of thinking and working with diverse communities to ensure our health care system is accessible to everyone.

A draft of the Program can be viewed here.

Who is it for?
