Consumer training opportunity in Loddon Mallee region

Loddon Mallee Integrated Cancer Service (LMICS) is the clinical network for cancer in our region. LMICS is committed to improving and extending consumer and community participation to deliver and create quality cancer care. 

LMICS is inviting consumers impacted by cancer and staff to attend free training in Castlemaine, Bendigo, Swan Hill and Mildura. 

These training sessions will be delivered by Health Issues Centre. 

Training for consumers will cover:

  • How to participate effectively on health advisory committees - expectations of the health service and consumer
  • What is consumer engagement and advocacy
  • Principles of advocacy
  • Role of consumers in affecting outcomes in delivery of cancer

Training for health service staff will cover:

  • What is understood by consumer engagement
  • Why engage and what contribution do consumers make on committees
  • How to work effectively with consumers - what makes it harder or easier
  • How to recruit and support consumers
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating consumer engagement
