Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Increasing the engagement of culturally diverse consumers with the Peter Mac Wellbeing Program

About the project

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) understands that people from culturally diverse backgrounds represent a large proportion of new cancer diagnoses in Victoria. The Centre has recognised that people from culturally diverse backgrounds may have difficulty navigating unfamiliar services, require additional support, or face discrimination.

Peter Mac's project aimed to increase the engagement of culturally diverse consumers in their Wellbeing Program and build on existing relationships with consumers from Chinese, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, and Arabic backgrounds. The project featured Cultural Lead roles to create culturally relevant activities to improve patient welbeing.

Danny Vadasz, CEO of Health Issues Centre, said that “it is great that it is consumer driven. The project responds to the identified need for culturally relevant wellbeing activities for cancer patients."

A video of the events will be available shortly.
