Yarram and District Health
Using video to help older patients access information about health care
About the project
Yarram and District Health Service has recognised that the majority of patients who fall or develop pressure injuries are over the age of 65. The staff also understand that many older patients have difficulty reading and comprehending the range of medical information provided on admission.
Yarram and District Health Service's project will place emphasis on the patient's right to request more information, to provide feedback and to speak up if their condition changes. The project will create a series of videos that will be played during admission, in patient rooms, and on the organisation’s website.
Consumers and carers will be involved in the project team but also provide advice on the video content and language and in the video production itself.
Danny Vadasz, CEO of Health Issues Centre, is excited that “Yarram and District Health has focused on the specific challenges faced by many ageing patients in understanding information presented at admission and discharge. Their proposal to develop a short video shows that new technology can be applied to ageing problems.”
