Clinical Governance for Health Consumers
We explain clinical governance in simple language that helps you be a more effective leader.
What do we offer?
There are hundreds of terms, concepts and guidelines relating to clinical governance that can be overwhelming for consumer representatives aiming to improve the health and safety of Victorians.
Health Issues Centre offers a three-hour workshop that will teach consumers, and community and board members the fundamentals of clinical governance from the perspective of consumers engaged in clinical governance committees. The workshop will provide participants with the terminology used in clinical governance and a description of the elements of a clinical governance framework. This will help consumer representatives be more effective and informed leaders on health service boards or committees.
The workshop will cover:
- Definitions and principles of clinical governance;
- Terms used in clinical governance;
- Elements of a clinical governance framework;
- Main benefits of and barriers to clinical governance;
- The role of boards of health services in clinical governance;
- Key questions to ask as consumer representatives involved in clinical governance
- Committees or health services boards.
What do past participants say?
Michael – a Consumer Representative at a health service – said that the “workshop was absolutely fantastic to attend. It’s pretty easy to get lost in all of the medical terms, but I was able to go through the language used in clinical governance and really understand what they mean. Because I attended this workshop, I have a personal glossary of terms that I can refer to whenever I need it. It provided the fundamentals of what good clinical governance should look like.”
When is the next Health Issues Centre workshop?
This workshop is currently offered as on-site training only.
